Explaining Significant Differences: 100+ Factors Unrelated to Delivery Mode

100+ Possible Factors Not Related to Delivery Mode for Finding a Significant Difference Between On-Campus and Online Courses

The purpose of this list is to demonstrate the futility of placing too much emphasis on the significance of "[No] Significant Difference" studies pertaining to online vs. campus-based courses. Despite the research maxim "correlation does not imply causation," [N]SD findings are often used to justify the conclusion that one delivery mode (usually traditional classroom instruction) is better than another (online or distance learning).

Use this list to:

1) Remind others as needed that differences in learning outcomes are related to other factors than delivery modes.
2) Identify possible factors to compare more closely for the purpose of improving online/distance or classroom-based learning programs.

This list will be updated and refined on a periodic basis as needed.
